TRAVELING....

I'm seriously wondering what the girls would think of Greyhound....at $198 per ticket it's 2/3's chepaer.....and they'd get here just 1/2 a day later than they would flying. They'd have to fly from here on the 31st as tickets are more on the 1st/2nd.....and driving they could leave on the 1st and arrive back mid day on the 2nd.....

I am also looking into Amtrak but it appears that you can't go from WA to TX on Amtrak...both cities have stations...but the site keeps telling me that it can't do it....

Hmm....

I think the question with Greyhound is would you feel comfy with the girls on the bus? there are not the same controls that there are on airlines... kwim?

Yeah - I'll have to think about this. There are TWO of them - so they wouldn't be traveling alone. They have a cell phone so we could call them and check on them every say 20 minutes....they are 21 and 19....

I rode Greyhound from 1982-1989. My experiences are thus 17 y/o.
What I found during those years was the smokers (you could smell it as they walked by) gravitated to the back of the bus. There was no smoking on the bus, so if there was a longer stop for lunch or dinner, they would get off for their fix.
The buses were warm and the air smelled pretty much like airline air-recirculated stuffy stuff. (Dries your throat out-pack water.)
Can't remember if there was a potty on the buses.
The middle and front of the bus tended to have seniors and college age people.
Almost everyone looked tired and just wanted to sleep, read or use their headphones.
If I sat next to a talker, they often shared their faith. I met more evangelizing Christians on Greyhound than I ever did on campus...
If the girls are lucky, they will get two seats together, if not, they won't be far from each other and can tell by the eyes they look into whether the person is someone they want to share a seat with.
I tended to gravitate to Grandma types for seat partners, cause I felt safer with older people.
I kept my purse w/me if I got off for meal stops. I was never mugged or robbed.

I used to travel on the bus when I was in highschool to visit my sister who was in college. Of course, that was many years okay.

If the girls were willing, I wouldn't worry about them traveling together on the bus.

I've talked with them last night about it and I'll talk with Mike next time I hear from him. If they are all fine with it, I am. It will be 1/3 of the cost...AND because they don't have the black out or really expensive fly dates they'll actually be HERE 2 - 3 days longer if they take the bus. They'll transfer in Billings, Denver and then be here. I have no idea how long the transfer times are at the stations but thought maybe I'd ask you and family in Denver if they'd like to visit when they are there.....but the girls will be freaked out (Bre especially) because they won't be showered and cleaned. LOL
