Produce Co-op Today

Today was our first day trying to get everything delivered in 30 minutes so that I could go to my class. LOL It worked. It was a bit of a hectic a.m. because they forgot 1/2 our celery and lettuce. Thank GOD for Adrienne. I called her and she ran by to pick it up before coming to the house and I kept sorting what we had. It's so nice to do this WITH someone and not have all the responsibility.

We are growing....the back of the van

At the last minute I had the boys take the front seat out. I'm glad I did - we needed the space....

We've been doing this for months. Josiah was home today (had to work a closing shift) and pulled out the hand truck...Duh!!!! ::snort:: In my defense neither of the young men who unload every week had thought of this.

1/2 the living room - Empty Baskets

Full baskets

A single share - $28

Oh what a lovely price for such beautiful bounty! I bought two 16oz containers of strawberries because they were on sale 2 for $5.00...Grapes were up to 3.85lb. You are blessed in your part of the West!

A nice amount of produce for that price! It is about the same as the little wholesale produce store I found that sells to the public. I love Scarpacis :) Walked out of there yesteday with so much stuff for $31. We got 24 nectarines, 3 bunches of bananas, 6 honey minilopes or some such thing, and scads of other stuff that I can't remember LOL. Oh, 4 big bags of red grapes. I forgot carrots and celery, not sure how I did that. They aren't open again until Tuesday so I hope what I have will last me. I am adding in food now, so I am not juicing as much, but still 3 or 4 a day.

I love when you post pictures. I had no idea what a hand truck was. When I was the picture, I thought....Oh, a dolly! LOL.

Sis: WOW! That all looks so good. Uncle' Ole is here today. Brought a fireplace insert his boss got from some remodel so we will see if it will work. Not sure just what we have to do as far as pipes etc. Will sure be findig out.

Guess I will now learn the art of choping wood. Not going to pay an arm and leg to buy it.....

We are getting to see a lot of Ole' cuz of his lady friend. She is very nice.

Darshia - they are 2.99 here this week - so you are doing good! LOL Our grapes, however, run anywhere from .99 - 2.00 a lb.

Hey Dorothy - Corucopia may make a good RV name. Yes, we truly are blessed with the variety and prices of produce down here in the SW.

In San Antonio I ran a produce coop which bought wholesale (I'm sure you remember that season LOL). Here we buy from the store with the best quality produce. I was thinking we're getting near wholesale prices and way better quality than we were getting from our wholesale distributor. Rick, the produce manager tries to handpick our cases for us, he tells us which things are going to be bad and he even gives us cases of bananas that are 1/2 green and 1/2 yellow. I'm really glad we got extended a year here...that will give us that much longer to cement our new eating style at affordable prices before we get sent somewhere expensive again. LOL

DeEtta,
How would you organize something like this? Do you go to a farmer's market that provides nothing but organic produce? How much does each family contribute each week? How many families MAX do you think you could handle? Is it just you going and getting it? I know that we have a farmer's market that does sell organic produce, but it is across town. How do you know what the going prices are, or what a good price is?
Thanks

The produce looks so good and that was a nice big basket for that price. I miss my produce coop too!
