Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket BOOKS - ALBUMS - CLUTTER

I'm spending this upcoming week having decreptitude appointments and cleaning, baking etc.

I'm not sure WHY but I decided to deal with the stacks of books in the library last night.

There was no other solutuion - I've thought about it for over a month.
I took all the photo albums off this shelf....

And they are now in crates that I have to put "somewhere"... I thought I would have ONE crate of albums. I HAD to skim through the albums. The PWOC Photo album from AK brought back so many fond memories...there was Marie (now in WA), and Darshia (still in AK - often comments here), Lynn (now in CO), Julie (now in Greece), Carleen (now in SD) and a host of women I need to hear from - guess I'd best get some Christmas (after the 25th) cards done as we all know THIS is ADVENT season and not CHRISTMAS season - right Renee? ::snort::....and there were photos of Donna when they were praying about adopting Destinee and her siblings. Wealth of memories stored in these crates...now WHERE am I going to put them????

I loaded the former photo album shelf with TOG books. That 3rd shelf from the bottom are Paperback Swap books (link in sidebar),double-shelved, that I need to read. Yes, I think I'd better think about hosting a winter reading challenge and quit receiving more books than I'm swapping. I DID find 3 new books to post on PBS last night and all 3 have been requested already. LOL

The tops of the shelves in the library are "safe" spots - and so lightbulbs, models, shined uniform shoes etc are all placed up there where the littles (and I) can't reach....I'm going to clear those out this week too.

Oh, a library...can I be envious and not covetous? One of these days we may have space to actually have a library.

Hope you do another reading challenge, it helps me to stay a bit on track!

Well - really - it's our FAMILY ROOM....but it's long and narrow. They sectioned off 1/2 the room to make a boys room (with a bathroom)...so that made the family room narrow....we've got counters that run in an L down one side the and the back and allthe computers and copy machines etc are on that. I have my "desk" in here and then te rest of the room is ringed by all our bookshelves....since we can't really do much "family activity" in here we started calling it the library.

I dream of having BOTH.

I need more bookshelf space!!! All my shelves are double booked right now.LOL

Yours are looking good though. Maybe I just need to prioritize and move some things into storage.

I'm STILL trying to figure out where to put the crates of albums.

Yes... a winter reading challenge, please!

Looks like you've been super busy. I never know why I decide to do something at certain times either.. I just get in a mood.. and usually it's because I want to procrastinate doing something else (LOL).

I'm thinking on that winter reading challenge...first I have to figure out how to make a graphic...then I have to figure out when it starts...but I should have all the posts from the other one so that would be easy. LOL

DeEtta,
Our schoolroom is in our formal living room. I used to have particle board shelves. When I did I was in a similar situation as you are, but mine was books not albums. I took the crates, with the books in them and put them on top of the shelves. I now have IKEA Billy bookcase shelves. They are wider and sturdier than the others (that used to turn out on me and bend). They are also wider and deeper. The ones from Walmart were only 6' tall and the ones from IKEA are 7' tall. Since I was also limited in space I had to think UP. Since we have 9' ceilings, I bought TWO height extensions from IKEA to go on top of my bookshelves. They now go all the way to the top of the ceiling. I would like to in the future get solid or glass doors for some of my shelves for a cleaner, neater look.

I am also looking at your shelves. I notice that there is some space to the left of your shelves, am I right? I had a tiny bit of space to the right of my IKEA shelves and the light switch. I bought box shelf organizers to go in that corner from TARGET. It holds my Twaddle type books that the kids like to read, readers and nature guides. Just thinking here....

Does this help any? Do you need picts?

Hmmm Beth - what you see there is the corner of the room. There are french doors right there and the door can't open all the way as it is now becuase of the bookcases...so I'm not sure about another narrow thing - it would have to be really narrow.....

I'd love to see photos of your ikea. We bought these shelves when we got here and they are bowing already. LOL BUT we hate to spend a lot of money on good furniture because those who have been in a long time say that after every 3 moves you need new furniture - movers are just rough. It's one of those no win situations.
