I Scream - You Scream - We all Scream for
ICE CREAM!!!
I decided the ice cream deserved it's own post. ::snort::
We began making our own ice cream over a year ago. We make it every Saturday as we have ice cream one night a week - Sunday night - instead of dinner. ::snort:: I let the habit slide during Mike's deployment. I began to simply buy Bryers....but everyone really likes homemade best. They were thrilled when Mike motivated me to begin buying the cream and he began making it again.
We've perfected vanilla. The kids add homemade frozen cookie dough, Newman O's, Magic Shell, Chocolate Chips...
Zander likes it best PLAIN!
Mike tried to make Rocky Road last week. It was ok, but sort of "weak". Tonight I made a chocolate sauce. I took a recipe for carob sauce out of Rodale's Natural Foods Cookbook and used more honey and cocoa.
We added little marshmallows, the chocolate sauce, pecans (see new poll), and chocolate chips to the "original" ice cream recipe. It made this and a bowl full. It was yummy. I still think chocolate covered almonds or pecans or peanuts would be best.
Remember that frozen cookie dough? What's this? An empty cookie tray in the freezer....I wonder just where that cookie dough went? I bet I find out at ice cream time tomorrow night.
Ah, nothing says Sunday - like home-made ice cream in the freezer. ::snort::

Cute pic! We made ice cream once, but it was so $$$, compared to Breyer's at Walmart!
LOL we've not done the price comparison....I do buy honey locally by the gallon, the cream and 1/2 and 1/2 I buy from Sam's...that's really all that's in ours.
*I think* Rodales has a pumpkin ice cream recipe that is soooo yummy. Just before I got pregnant with Asher- when I lost down to pre-Micaela lbs- I was making that ice cream two times a week for my lunch and dinner and whatever else :) It must be a good diet food, you should try it! But I think I may not have followed it verbatim.... I'll have to try it again.
Becky - be sure to let me know when you figure it out - I think this calls for more taste testing on the part of you and your family. ::snort::
De-what kind of ice cream maker do you use? I recently gave our old one (wedding gift) away because we haven't used it in YEARS. There are so many neat ones on the market these days, I figured it wasn't likely we would ever use our old fashioned one again (or at least enough to justify it taking up space on the shelf).
Let me know what brand you recommend.

REALLY THINK you need to be sure you have an extra tray or two of cookie dough........... you know I have been known to eat a bit...... I'll join your dough sneaker and we'll really need some extra pans full!!! :):):)

YUM YUM! If we ever get over your direction, I'll be sure to come on a Sunday night!
