Mike's Experiment:

Same room, same time, same girl, same lighting....

Now with the SLR:
She is moving in this one....
We really concluded, as Lisa has, that nothing will compare to the SLR....for taking quick shots of little ones....I think I will begin to leave the Nikon out again....and if we get a point and click it will be for things that pop up when I haven't brought the SLR. Maybe. LOL

The SLR is certainly much better!!

Yep, it's a big difference. We tried to find something not as expensive as a SLR but I really needed the shots to turn out. I HATED having to take 10 shots just for one good one. The littles by then were not natural and I missed the exact situation that prompted my wanting to take a photo.LOL

Yep, SLR's win hands down. I LOVE my camera. Do you have a 28-300 lens? If all you have is a 28-70 lens, you might want to look into the bigger one. I have the auto 28-70 that came with my Minolta SLR but also have the 28-300 I had with my film camera.

We LOVE the UGA Georgia Bulldogs Football and enjoy going to their games (once a year). I love the shots I get in action during that time. I also like the consecutive shot button, where I can hold the button down and it takes a picture one right after another. One time on our 4th celebration from church, there was a mom there with a 6m old. She was trying to get her to smile. I kept it on consecutive shot and about midway we got the CUTEST smile.

Glad you are home! We have missed your posts, wisdom and knowledge on the board.

Beth,

I DO have a 28 - 300 lens....and we are talking about another HUGE one before our next trip...OK I'M talking about it. I got lens envy when we were snapping away at our moose (28-70 lens) and two folks biked up and whipped GIGANTIC lenses from their backpacks....but Mike told me we were CLOSE ENOUGH with the smaller lens. LOL However with one lens bigger you could get some awesome, really close shots on the ferry. LOL

Maybe I'll just promise to be more protective of the SLR at the park (homeschoolers grabbing off picnic table etc) and we'll save the $ for a point and click to buy another lens. LOL

That is a major difference. Definitely a good idea to have both types of camera's or all three now I've forgotten what your camera goal was. LOL OK super good one for when you know it will be safe. better point and shoot for every day. Worse point and shoot for potentially dangerous outings. That would cover everything! Well then you just need a kid proof camera. I see some kids digitals by crayola in the latest walmart paper.

I still think it depends on the camera. I'm able to get some pretty good shots with my SD800... I haven't used my "good" camera for several years now. All of the pics you see on my blog come from my SD800.... even the BB and VB action shots.

I should also add that we do plan to buy the REBEL sometime.. probably this year. We want it for the outdoor zoom - animal/scenery shots... but I won't go back to carrying it around everyone now that I've grown accustomed to having this little one in my pocket.

LOL Cindy - yes, of course it would differ with cameras....I was simply illustrating why I'm not happy with the performance of OUR camera.

However....even having used my friends S1000 - I think the SLR is BETTER but the S1000 is the best I've used so far (and far cheaper). I have plans to use the bigger powershot this weekend.
