The Day that Would NOT End....

We begin with Tuesday - just a couple of highlights.  We discovered a squirrel in our Bible Study room.  When finalizing our United order I deleted myself. ::snort::
TODAY....
I got my Bible Reading done (I really think I AM going to be done in 90 days) and was at the base at 9:30 for a tax appointment. The poor dear was a bit rattled, evidently. She informed me that I wasn't allowed more than 4 dependents. She also didn't think I had to claim the AK PFD $ on our federal taxes. (Both are false assumptions).
The appt took longer than expected, and I missed the gym.
Home to do some school.
Fired up Turbo Tax.....fielded several calls from the nice tax folks at the base...I'm getting a much bigger refund from Turbo Tax...so the plan is to look at them side by side and figure out what is going on.
Off to get my hair done.
Ah - Mike is working late to write OPR's and Medal packages - that will not be understood unless you are military, but I'm too tired to rewrite tonight. ::snort::
Jamin is working. Jared and Josiah went out on the town with friends.
The littles and I headed to the gym for that workout I missed this a.m. Brawling in the Family Fitness room cut that a bit shorter than I would have liked. ::Sigh::
Dinner
More Turbo Tax printing.....
Kids are settling down, I'm showering and going to go read or something....
Lance Mackay won the Iditarod....we were pulling for King or Buser....But Buser played the best trick on the officials....I think he should get a bonus. Darshia, thanks so much for sending the insert from the paper and the posters. We really loved the one with all of Mackay's dogs. It is cool that he won both the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod two years in a row....OK it IS cool he won. LOL

Unfortunately the folks at most post tax centers have limited training. I think the folks at H&R Block are better trained.
We goofed on our taxes this year but really it wasn't out fault. Dh sat down in early Feb and did our taxes, our refund arrived in the bank account....
THEN he got paperwork from his grandmother's estate that said his executor's fee was earned in 2007 and had to be claimed on his taxes (weird things is that the executor fee check was written in 08, mailed in 08, deposited in 08) so that means Scott has to work on the ammendment this weekend.
Then my 1099-misc arrived (WEEKS LATE) from DFAS for my contracts at the chapel last year. We knew that I didn't have to pay federal income tax on it (has to do with living/working overseas) but as Scott looked more closely, it turns out I do need to pay self-employment tax... so now there are TWO things he needs to do for the ammendment....
which will probably mean that we'll have to send back our refund.. and possibly some extra.... sigh....

Chuckling re: trick on the officials!

Hope you get some rest, Sis. Sorry I didn't send the posters Priority...they might have made it before the race ended!

KEWL photo at the top!

Tax stuff... ugh.... I'm so glad we can use the same accountant every year so I don't have to worry about making sure someone knows everything about us each year. GOOD LUCK on the comparison!

Don't trust base finance :) When we were there as students in '00, they promised us we were owed TDY pay and local BAH (not true since we were students). Everyone from our home base and the training squadron repeatedly told us they were making a mistake, but finance wouldn't listen. We even had our squadron commander sign a letter. Finance there just knew they were smarter than everyone. We held on to the money for 6 months, PCS'd kept it for a couple more months and decided to just blow some on a vacation- hehe, we knew we shouldn't, but as double dippers double dipping it was too irresistable. They garnished an entire paycheck from both of us while we were on a 3 wk trip to Europe!!! Then they forgave Ian's debt and payed back his paycheck. But they garnished mine for several months. How fair is that??
