Savoring (and packing ::snort::)

We've spent the past couple of days simply savoring each moment we have together. How strange that it takes an upcoming separation to really slow down and savor....to laugh about the snoring, reach for hands more often when running errands, hug and cuddle more often, silly little glances, snuggling close to hear the heartbeat you won't hear for a bit of time....savoring. One of the joys of deployments; a new awareness of how much you truly do mean to each other.

We are staying up late to watch Star Wars; a special, special treat for the kids.

Tomorrow, we begin our "deployment trial" as Mike leaves for a month. He'll be home mid-March for a bit more time and then the real thing. Our goal in the next month is to find all the little things we've not thought of and take care of them before the real thing. We've never had the luxury of a trial run before. ::snort::

One of the fun things about these trips are the new toys Michael brings home!

Nah, I won't get preachy - but - (ah shoot; I'm a teacher,I have to get preachy) if you have the luxury of keeping your spouse home, why not pretend you have a long separation coming up and see if you can't savor a bit of the fun without the parting?

I love that savoring part. Our weekends look like that. You'd think Doug was going to be gone for months instead of just 5 days.

We've really learned to live in the moment and cherish each other and our relationship. We've learned that something we'd maybe want to say no to, will most likely be a yes because there may not be an opportunity for that for a while. It's been the one good thing that we've learned with this lifestyle.

I will be praying for you. I always do but rarely post. Hopefully you'll remember everything you need to do when you do the trial. I'm praying extra for Stacia and Zander.

Sis:
That's my girl. Tough, but tender. Praying HARD for you all.

As one gets older the savoring aspect also comes into effect. LIKE did you ever think you would see your Dad/Mom having short kisses at a public swim pool? Well savoring hits those growing older also.

HOWEVER, we know prayer is essential to you all the next few months so you will get extra from us.

De'Etta, I am praying for you and Mike and the children. Another dear friend's hubby has left (still in the states, but just waiting for the day). I actually think he and Mike might be in the same place. I'll email and I know Bryan would love to meet Mike.
Anyway, thinking of you.

It's good that you've found blessings in the finals days and weeks before separations.

When Jamie used to go on tour (different sorts of tours, but many dangers, of a different kind) I hated those last few days before parting. I would get so stressed and anxious that I'd always muck it up with silly arguments. Which made the aiport goodbyes all very traumatic. I once read a Dorothy Parker story called The Lovely Leave which summed up exactly how it was for me. Poignant.

Maybe because of those years of frequent and sometimes prolonged separation, we now savour eachother quite a bit. {g} I guess we're all different. Tough times bring out the worst in me. It sounds like they bring out the best in you and Mike.{g}
