We have little space in Japan....though our home has much more space than most Japanese style homes.

There are great space-saving gadgets all over this country. Unfortunately, I bought 2 Topsy Turvy planters before I went to the local garden show.

I had  a "duh" moment and bought the boxes at the BX.....thinking it would all be in there. ::snort:: NO, obviously I needed to buy dirt and plants. The plants were Y197 per plant and this calls for 15 -30. I bought 8 and then I wondered..... If I'm spending $30 - 60 on one of these....

Will the 18 quarts of dirt pull the hook on the patio out of the roof? Will the wind blow THIS to my neighbor's house? Should I try the Topsy thing or go buy a planter and plant my plants that way?

Sunday's had a variety of planters made for gardening...deeper, drainage in the bottom. I bought a "fresh salad planter" and am dreaming of fresh lettuce, carrots and spinach....because it HAS been hard to find good lettuce around here. Maybe it doesn't grow well, I'll find out. ::snort::

Do I hang these planters or not? Mike, what say you? Input??????

Sis: I am sure glad plants are cheaper here. Also we got strawberry starts free (12) so the garden has them and we won't have to ever plant them again..... just thin them. :):) We are going to try pepers in our upside down planters this year.

I love planter boxes that I can move so I can put what I want where I what and when I want.

Hi Cutie
It seems to me that I put the hooks into a beam, but I am not quite positive. There is a stud finder out in the garage. I think it is in the box of screws, or it might be in the brown tool box; I can't remember. I showed Jared how to use it a while ago, but if he needs a refresher, let me know.

Love you
Mike

We bought SAME one ... no seeds no dirt... I think it was badly labeled on the package, don't you?!

FWIW, TheCooksGarden ships to APO addresses if you email them. I think Burpee might also.

Much love,
Sarah

PS: Are you guys going to be around in about 2 weeks? Lord willing, that will be our next trip on base.

Sarah - we should be here...give us a day or two notice.

I don't know what I want to do - buy plants locally or online....and I agree that the box was not labelled well......it showed EVERYTHING. LOL

Michael, I have a plan B. Are you surprised? What if I put at least one of them on the Shepherd's Hook? I really don't want to use both of them if it means 15 - 30 plants at Y197 a pop. I was expecteding much less. LOL

I'm going to the produce market down the road to see if they'll sell me some plants. Never know.....

Hi Pretty Lady
I have reached my first stop in theater. I may be all the way tomorrow. I have wifi, but will need to go outside to skype - it is a smallish room.

Mike

Love you
Mike

Oh, I need to answer the question. If you are able to drive the shepherds hook 15-18 inches deep, it should hold.

Love you
