FRIDAY

~Disclaimer...I found the ticker last night doing a google search and I have no CLUE what Phen Forum is...so don't take it as an endorsement. LOL

~Today could be summed up concisely (though you know I won't LOL): Speech and Produce Co-op in the am, and Trailer shopping in the pm. There, that's the reader's digest version.

~For those who like to read.....Mike has been spending his dreaming time over yonder making plans to buy a road whale. He asked me to go gather some information and they've been closed when I went by. I decided to gather his info today. Have you ever dealt with car type salesman or mechanics as a female? Some of them can be a bit condescending. I went in. I told them the exact trailer I wanted. They asked what I drove. I told them. They laughed. I told them that I was sure it could haul a trailer. They continued to laugh. One even said, "Little lady, why don't you let us show you a smaller trailer?" LITTLE LADY????

OK...so I was tired, cold and missing Mike by this point....and I answered "Oh - will 9 children, 2 adults and a dog fit in the smaller one?" ::snort::

They showed me another one with bunks that was lighter. I asked them if there was a way we could check these numbers before I decided on the one they showed me because we REALLY want the other one. Deep sighs, smirks and such from men. I felt like saying "Don't mess with me! NEVER mess with a deployed spouse, buddy! I fixed a SINK yesterday!!!" But I smiled. In fact I was charming. I knew what was coming. ::snort:: One man went out to check the van because they were SURE "the little lady" was a tad bit confused (chuckle, smirk) and didn't have a v-10 engine in her van. I KEPT telling the salesman - we bought the biggest we could with an eye to hauling a trailer. He got out his Ford book. "Is it an Arrowstar?"

" NO - it's an EXTENDED 350...it's not a mini-van."

"Hmm...Expedition?"

"No, you'll find it under the trucks."

The other man came in....it's an E-350 XLT, Super - Extended.....

"Maam, is your van a 7 or 8 passenger van?" (I had told them this earlier ::snort::).

"It's a 15 passenger van."

" Maam, that has a v-10 engine, that will haul trailer!"

" Um...yeah!"::sigh::

They talked numbers with me. They talked extra features with me. I told them I'd want to leave it on the lot until Mike was home to DRIVE it somewhere. They told me they'd deliver it to my home....why would I need a boat like that in my yard???? Well it COULD be useful when the girls are home, come to think of it..... They told me they could defer payments until Mike is home. The man asked for my credit number. I have no clue and will need to figure that one out. The salesman then said he wouldn't feel right selling me anything (not that I was buying today anyway) until FORD told me how much the van can pull because um....well you know...Mike's gone and he didn't want me to buy the wrong thing. Fair enough. I got out the manual and asked him if these weren't the numbers he needed. He wanted me to go to FORD. I did. They sent me to another office. That man said they don't give computer printouts....and said, "Don't you have a manual?"

BUT he looked at numbers and vin numbers...and um helped me shut the hood on the van (long story). He highlighted the numbers in the book that I had shown the salesman earlier - so now I can go back with the manual and show him that those ARE the numbers. I still have to figure all the numbers Mike - so I'm not sure if you want to get the one you spotted online or look for another, but I'll send you those numbers.

I ran to Sam's to buy milk. Came home, ate, and will now go watch Tarzan 2.

I went to take a photo and the camera is doing the Flashing F thing again. No rhyme or reason....to why it does this and to why it works when it does.

DeEtta,
If it makes you feel any better when we bought our new 5th wheel last week they questioned Tim with all of the same questions before we actually signed on the dotted line because it's some requirement they have to make SURE that the people buying the trailer know how to pull it. I don't remember that nusaince the last time we bought a trailer, but they looked at our pickup, looked it up in their book, checked the 5th wheel plate, the whole 9 yards and that was WITH Tim being there. So... I don't think they were necessarily running you through the ringer although I would have been the first to think that had we not just gone through this last week.
FWIW, our new camper with 3 slide outs weighs less than our older one that has no slides and is 5 feet shorter.
What kind are you looking at?

De'Etta, you sound scary today LOL. I hate that condensending attitude of salesmen. HELLO!

I love your Hannah Swensen blinkie!

OK...Allen has a friend over, the other two are supposed to be going to bed and leaving them alone, Doug is in WV. I'm tired....guess I should try to sleep, eh? With all this juice I'm drinking, I'm up all night going potty! Are you getting any sleep?

Regarding your camera. Have you found that error code in your manual? Our other camera flashed an error code and I had to send it back. I don't know what they did to it, but they did something and it's worked every since. It was some sort of an internal setting that had to be reset. FWIW

How exciting and fun! You will love, love, love having a travel trailer...you will never go back!

We are looking to upgrade ourselves, but will probably have to wait for another year.

What size/model are you looking at? Where are you websites...I would love to see this beauty! I love camper shopping.

I can't believe they gave you a hard time about a 350...that is a 1-ton isn't it? It will haul anything they sell!

Hey DeEtta,
You asked for it and I have it! I have a cookbook that is called "Fresh From the Farmer's Market" and it has recipies to cook and have raw meals, etc with your fresh stuff. What kinds of things did you get and I will send you over some recipies?

QB its a Keystone Sydney Outback with 4 bunks in the back and a big slide out...and it's very nice....in the summer they told Mike it could be pulled with "no trouble"....NOW I'm not sure we can pull it. {sigh} The only other model they have with 4 bunks is a Fleetwood and isn't built as solid. Also the outback had slide through storage underneath (which we can't fully utilize with weight being as close as it was). The Outback also has covered and insulated undercarriage - good for AK....so we really WANT it and not the Fleetwood....but if we can't get the Outback we could look and see what other kinds are out there that may have some of the same features but weigh less.

Kelly - I've been meaning to ask how you are doing with your juicing. Is it helping your fibrmyalgia pain? Are you loosing weight? Sleep? A bit last night....LOL

I couldn't resist the blinkie...now if they had a Magadelan Yoder blinkie.....maybe I can talk to Yvonne and have her son make one. LOL

Beth - cauliflower, broccoli, celerly, potatoes, carrots, spinach, pineapple, apples, oranges, peaches, .....typical things. I need recipes each week so will save any you send. LOL

Cindy - I can't find that code yet...but it began working a few days ago....now stopped again.

Debbie - here's the one Mike picked out - the 31RQS...http://keystone-outback.com/

Here's the model # of the one they have on the lot though this is a bit different - weighs more http://fleetwoodrv.com/brandtomodel/floorplan.aspx?brand=wilderness/wi&m=320DBHS

We'd always been told we could "pull anything" but now that we are ready to buy it seems we can't pull ANYTHING! IF we want to load it! ::snort::

QB - I've thought about this. {G} Yes, I know that they have to check these days...this was different.

They were NOT saying "let's check" - I had to suggest that. LOL They were LAUGHING that I would think a van could pull a trailer! Funny thing is the same salesman had told MIKE it could pull anything they sell...

Nope - they thought I was funny and cute and I was not in the mood to have them think I was funny and cute. I wanted to discuss weight loads of a trailer!!! The problem was mostly the other customer so I won't hold it against the salesman. LOL

Ours is a North Shore. It has the all weather style as well. It has two bedrooms... two of the bunks are in a room by themself at the back of the camper and it has a BIG door back there for loading things easily. One of our slides is in the upper bedroom which makes the bed go in the direction that allows you to actually sit up in bed where the other ones without a slide usually lean back (front angle) so you can't sit upright comfortably... big issue when you're living in it. The other thing I REALLY like about this one is that 2 of the bunks are a balcony so to speak over looking the living area which is nice since it'll give extra places for people to be while watching TV or visiting... again, not a big deal when camping but a BIG DEAL when living.

The other thing you might want to check on is the height of the slide. We noticed that some brands had shorter slides and we wanted the taller height... and we aren't even as tall as the men in your family!

FWIW, they had a really nice used bunk (4 bunks in the back) with a slide here when we looked... but it wouldn't work for us since we needed some different features for living in it. We ended up having to purchase new and here this is definitely the time to buy because they barely sell 3-4 a month this time of the year (LOL). We looked at this same one earlier last fall and it was about $7000 more than what we paid for it now in the middle of the winter.

Happy shopping!

Reminds me that I should go out and take some pictures of our old one before the people come to get it today. I'll have to wait to take pictures of our new one until it warms up and the slides are out.

LOL I checked the slides....over 6 feet.....can't remember exactly but Mike stood up in it when we checked it last summer...LOL
