36 Hershey's Kisses - Michael

I can tell that the time is winding down. De'Etta and the kids have their M&Ms and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups; I have Hershey's Kisses. I have exactly 36 left. Tomorrow I will have 35... It is looking better every day. I can see the bottom of the container. This is good.

More Backyard Issues - Michael

This is the lull in the storm for all of the construction in my backyard.  All of the workders are local hires.  They are having their holiday weekend following Ramadan.  Either Monday or Tuesday, it should get fairly busy and noisy here for a few weeks.  Setting forms and pouring concrete is next on the agenda. 

 The white "buildings in the background of the bottom photo are conex hooches.  If you look carefully, there is a white vertical line between every second airconditioning unit.  This the dividing line between each "conex" section.  In the top photo all the way at the end, you can see the horizontal dividing line where two "conex" hooches have been stacked.

37 Loads of Laundry - Michael

In my time here in Afghanistan, I figure I have done about 37 loads of laundry.  About every four days, I have a bag of laundry that needs attention.  There is a laundry service, but the idea of having all of my clothes washed with everyone else's clothes (to include t-shirts, socks and underwear) bothers me.  I also noted that my clothes came back with soap residue still in them (hmm, hopefully, soap residue).  It only took twice at the laundry point to convince me that the time spent doing my own laundry was time very well-spent.  You say, "Why twice?"  Because, the first time through I thought I could deal with the "issues."  The second time, when there was soap residue and the unknowns of what was washed with my stuff, I was a believer.

It appears Michael's replacement is in no hurry to arrive in country. ::snort:: 


Our countdown is moving today from 31 to at least 38. 


One more week to lose a lb or two. One more week to get a jump in school.

SLIDES, BIKES, RALLIES and MOPS

Wednesday I went to the gym,  worked on Rally details, did some shopping and then we went back to "the Park" and slid a bit more while Jared was at football.....this time Twyla brought PACHINKO the wonder dog. 

Today was MOPS. Always fun to meet new young moms....this year I'm a Mentor Mom and on the steering committee. Our program was on fitness.....great topic.  I also went to the gym, worked on Rally details, went to lunch with a friend, took friend back to the chapel to help me work on Rally details, went on a bike ride with the four youngers, had Japanese lessons and picked up Jared from football.

A bit more about that bike ride. I believe FALL is here. I think that watering our yard during that hot snap in the middle of the day, resulted in the huge thunderstorm on Labor Day and inadvertently changed the tilt of the cosmos breaking the hot snap. We're loving the 80* weather and cool evenings.  We decided to take the bike ride to the farmer's market to buy some lettuce. I had a sneaky plan to buy ice cream cones for them too. In a land where bicyclists are common, I don't know why we received so much attention.....

We were able to ride on farm roads most the way...but I am wondering yet again why there are no BIKE lanes in Japan....but then again our car lanes are VERY narrow with light poles in the lane.....guess we can live dangerously without bike lanes. 

That's it....time to go to bed and wake up energized.

Thirty-one flavors

This Baskin and Robbins is only 7 minutes from our door. We aren't always sure what we've ordered, but so far, they've all been great. Thirty-one flavors for 31 days????? Another countdown in the making? Should we?
