A Tale of Two Baths

(no photos - yet) ::snort::

I went online and found several recipes for an oatmeal bath. I tried it. Whew - first bath I've had in months. Very relaxing.....um...yeah...helped with some of the itchies....but when I went to drain the tub.........

Well, I remember that baking soda and vinegar clear drains.

Arielle's going to now take a baking soda bath....and I'll stand by with the vinegar...that should take care of the drains. LOL

DeEtta,
This is what I use for Drano:

1 c baking soda
1 c vinegar
1 c boiling hot water

Put the baking soda in, followed with Vinegar and hot water. (of course wait until people are OUT of the tub, lol.

I know oatmeal is thick, but I wonder if you have to crush it, refine it in your mill or something to make it smaller, so you can avoid these issues.

I blended the oats until they were a fine powder. The bath was great...but when it went to drain.....it was thick.

I could just see the folks in Liberia and the Philippines where we ministered shaking their heads at such a wonderful bath..... good enough to eat. :):):)

Sounds great to me.

When my kids had chicken pox, I put the oatmeal in an old tube sock and tied the end. Then I squeezed the sock a few times (after soaking it in the tub) to get the "juices" out of it.... this kept most of the floating oatmeal out of the tub (and drain)

OK well IF they had mentioned that online it would have been helpful. Two of them said sprinkle it in the water....and the 3rd said to use cheesecloth. Of course, I had no cheesecloth....so I went with the other recipes....but I have LOTS of mismatched socks I can use. LOL

We have chicken pox right now and did the whole oatmeal thing in the bath- what a mess! A friend told me to put it in an old panty hose- that worked wonderful! We called it the oatmeal snake. The more you squeeze it, the more your bath has the soothing affect from the oatmeal. And there is no mess when you drain. You can use it for a couple of baths too before you have to throw it out.

Mandy - did you blend the oats first or just use them whole?

It was so easy- just dump them in the nylon (part of a leg tied at the end) whole. They get nice and mushy in the bath water- without the mess.

Sorry about the chiggers! My dad has them in TN but we don't suffer from those up here in eastern WA.

Also, you have a nice blog- thanks for sharing your life with others-you help others choose the joy by being an example! God bless.
