PIGGING OUT!!

Goodness – I just pigged out royally.

On Chocolate?
No.
Brownies?
No.
Cheesecake?
No.
Whole grain organic bread?
No.

Are you sitting down, Mom? ARTICHOKES! I just ate three of those puppies all by myself. I did save the heart of one for Mike.

How in the WORLD do you cook those things! I've tried steaming them and then boiling them and I just can't get them soft enough to eat the inside out of the leaves. Maybe I'm not cooking them long enough or something...

You can either steam or boil artichokes. The easiest thing is to do it this way:

Pull out any loose leaves that you can....trip any really sharp spikes. Trim the bottom of the plant so it will stand flat on a plate when cooked. {g} Put in a stock pot and cover with water. Boil say 25 - 30 minutes.

Then the fun begins...pull out the leaves and dip into butter (garlic butter is my favorite or lemon butter)....eat the bottom fleshy part of the leaf and sort of scrape it on your teeth - my son tried to eat the WHOLE leaf - and it doesn't taste good! ....keep dipping and eating....and wiping your chin...don't forget to wipe your chin. :::snort:::

AHAAA!!! ONLY eat the bottom of part of the leaf. I was trying to eat the whole inside of the leaf...DUH!
