Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Hair Adventures!

Consider this a warning to all my local friends and family – This is ME. Green eyes, dark hair that matches eyebrows, double chin and all.

I had decided to let the highlights grow out. I went in yesterday to get my roots done, after the mammogram….there isn’t a one stop center for mammograms and hair…YET.

I’d noted my hair was getting that “elastic feel” again. I decided to accept fate and go grey. I’d just live with the yucky months as it grew out.

I grew up in the tropics. My hair was always sun-bleached. I began to think I was a blonde. I moved to AK, where there is no sun for many months, and my hair got DARK. I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror. I asked them to please give me some “sun streaks” and they did. I’ve not looked back. I forgot how dark my hair is. Mike says that this is the color my roots have always been…..I get lots of highlights in the summer.

Heather said that I could just let it grow out and have longer and longer dark with blonde at the bottom…..OR she could put an all over color on that matched my roots. The highlights would be gone. She matched it to my roots. Since I was shocked at how dark it was, once again, she went a shade lighter….and here I am.

My hair has gotten darker as I've gotten older and I still struggle with the whole going gray thing. One of these days, and I'm shooting for 50, I'm just going to give up on the whole dying my hair idea and go ala naturale.

I think yours looks nice, but it is darker.

Hey I LOVE it! I find it's so much easier to just let my hair be grey...my salt and pepper is coming in quite nicely ;-)

And it looks distinquished on you.....and you are YOUNGER than me....maybe I will go grey soon...we shall see.

My stated goal was not to be grey while pregnant as I get so MANY comments....

Sis:

Nevermind the hair color....... you are still our beautiful YOUNG daughter....... nuts, if we acknowledged you were getting older than we would have to deal with us getting older too. :):)

De'Etta,I find it can be challenging letting nature take it's course sometimes. After thoughtful and prayerful consideration, I opted not to color my hair for two basic reasons. 1. I am cheap! I can't see spending that much money on stuff that's just going to grow out and get cut off again, kwim?
2. I want my children--especially my daughters to see me age gracefully. (I hope, I hope!)I want to set the example for them that despite that the world shows/tells them, that by my example there is nothing to be ashamed of by getting older and looking my age.

This is just my personal preference. I don't judge others who choose to dye their hair, it's just not for me. My hair has gotten much darker as I've gotten older. When we lived in Hawai'i, I had red highlights that I really liked so it was an adjustment getting used to having naturally darker hair. Whatever you choose to do, De'Etta, your joyfilled personality and love of God will shine through. :)

Ha! I just had a cashier at HEB ask me if 4 month old Elisha was my GRANDSON! I just about died! When I replied that he was my fifth child, she didn't even seem to notice her comment...and I'm not THAT much younger than you! Naturally, my dh got a good laugh over it.

Yes, Deja - we've been getting those comments since we moved to TX and the girls were teens. There are STILL some in San Antonio - where we lived 5 years ago who are SURE that Arielle and Nolan were our girls' children. LOL

Michelle,

I do hear what you are sayign and I do stress aging gracefully to the children - but I like to have fun too and right now the colors are fun. LOL However - I'm thinking salt and pepper could be fun too....just need to figure out how and when I'll let it grow out. I told myself when I was 50% grey I'd let it go - I'm 40% now according to Heather.

It is definitely dark! It must be the week to have your hair done. I noticed Emily posted hair pics on her blog as well. I just had mine done the other day. I went more red with blonde/gold highlights this time after being dark for the last 6-8 months.

Well my plan is to stay with my natural color now and eventually add the grey for the salt and pepper look.....

You go girl! I too had 'highlights'. It was call Touch of Sun - basically peroxide in a bottle. Anyway, when it really started drying my hair out, I woke up and realized what I was doing. I started dying my hair a lighter shade. Then got tired of that because my eyebrows were so much darker. Tom suggested going black. NO! I settled for dark brown. I like it, Hubby likes it, friends like it, parents still aren't sure. OH well. Gray! NEVER! Unless I know it will be fabulous White like a few ladies I know. However both my grandmothers had mousy gray hair. Nope not for me!
OH! THanks for the help with my blog! I knew you'd know the answer.
xoxo

Yeah - I asked if they could highlight it WHITE! LOL

Now there's a great idea, a one stop mammogram/hair coloring place. Hmmm!

My hair got darker with both of my pregnancies. As I age, lighter is more flattering, so this is not the way I want to go.

Meanwhile, I've finally started going a little grey, and I pluck all those puppies out asap. But they only grow in one spot in the top of my head, so I guess I'll have to re-evaluate when I get a bald patch there. lol.

(Ew, I don't like admitting THAT!)

I am 8 weeks younger than dh, and as long as I look a lot younger than that, I'm happy. :)

Your hair looks great! And you do not have a double chin!

Ah, but I do...I need to learn how to use photo shop, like you my friend! LOL

I was born a toe head and stayed that was until I hit my teens then I got progressively darker so I started highlighting my hair which I did for YEARS. Then in the 90's I lost the highlights and went to my natural color which was very dark . . .went back to highlighting for a few years and now I am back to my natural color . . .I will stay that way for awhile. I only have a few grey hairs here and there but they all decided to showup in the front . . bummer . . .so I have to color mine until I am ready to let it all show too :-)
