ARGH - my computer has gone crazy!!!!

It was frozen and wouldn't do a thing. I tried the soft start and then hard crash thing. Finally Igot it to shut down but when I restarted it.....everything is gone. My tool bar is gone.

I did find the documents on the hard drive.

Outlook says "there are no current identities". It doesn't give me any old ones to click on. I can't access any of my outlook files, emails for orders that I'm trying to compile for today, newsletters I was working on etc. Also no email addresses.

When I use explorer, it has no favorites,my home page is gone etc. In fact now it says it can't establish a connection with Verizon...but the computer next to it can.

In other words all my settings seem to be gone. Does anyone have a clue what I should do? I have two projects I was working on today (a spice order and a co-op newsletter). I have a zillion emails waiting to be answered.

It appears to me that somehow it got messed up and logged on as some "generic user" rather than me...but in the start up screen I put in my old password to get it to load....I have no clue what to do or how to find my old outlook and explorer files....

help?

Wish I could help but when this happened to me once I had a place called "Computer Nerds" come over and they got it all up and going.

Hi De'Etta,

This is Lisa's husband. If you had your System Restore on before you lost your setting, you may be able to use the System Restore to return your settings. I don't know if this will also fix the Outlook problem. To find System Restore, go to the Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore, and follow the on screen instructions. It should let you select a date prior to when you lost your setting, and bring your computer back to what it looked like at that time. I hope this helps. You can send any questions to Lisa's e-mail.

Eric and Lisa,

When I go to start - programs- accessories - system tools - it doesnt give me "sytem restore" as an option. I have backup, charachter map, disk defragmentr and system information....should I try one of those?

I tried back up - restore wizard and it won't let me click any files...it looks like it is for discs or such. System info just gives me a list of settings.

Any other ideas? Thanks for the suggestion. I always live in fear of crashing the computer while Mike is gone. He's the one around here who UNDERSTANDS them.

Can you go to My Computer->Help->About Windows and see version of Windows that you have? Do you have Windows XP?

I have done some looking around, and it looks like only Windows XP and Windows Me have the System Restore option.

I have Outlook 2002 on one of our computers. If Outlook 2003 is similar, you can set up email accounts by going to Tools->Email Accounts. Then select view or change existing email accounts and click on Next. Then you can click on an existing account, and change things such as entering you email name and password, or you can click on Add... and you can enter the info for you email id and password. You may be able to call your Internet Service Provider for help in setting up your email.

I hope this helps.
