Completely Crunchy

I've done it. I've surpassed all the "crunchies" the boys know. I'm now carrying my own cooler filled with "clean" snacks. I am determined, at this time in my life, to eat some sort of great produce and/or lean protein every few hours. I feel so MUCH better now that I'm keeping my blood sugar stead (go figure LOL)....but this is difficult when you are out....and so I substitute with Recees Peanut Butter cup...you know "carbs and protein". ::snort:: One great idea I got from that Eat Clean book that Heather loaned me was to take a cooler with me. Jared says I've now gone completely over to the dark side.

This is my cooler....

Yes, I can hear Mike now. "You won't catch ME carrying that." I know. ::chortle:: THAT is the point. This is MY cooler and I'm betting that NO ONE will be carrying FISH from the stream to the camp in THIS cooler!!!! ::snort:: No, I'm really not bitter...I have a cooler fetish and was actually happy to find my cooler still smelled like AK salmon. ::smirk::

I like your cooler, but I could never be disciplined enough to clean it out each day and wash it.

CLEAN IT????? WASH IT???? I may have to rethink this. I have a bunch of little containers. Today I threw in a container with grapes, one with carrot sticks and green beans, a little thing of homemade ranch, and a baggie of peanuts. The cooler didn't need washed....all the conatiners are in the dishwasher....it was VERY nice to have something to eat when the day didnt' go as expected....and the only other option was that BIG bag of M/M's I'd bought for the girls. ::snort::

LOL...you are really getting good at this eating stuff. I remember to bring snacks for the kids, but usually have to scrounge on the van floor for stray M&Ms for me!

I'm a visual learner/person...It's inspiring to see such healthful snacks.
I may borrow this idea just to keep my daily intake on the right track.
Thanks for posting this.

Adorable cooler, De'Etta. Where did you find it? Awesome healthy snacks!

Good job.

an alternate to Reese's peanut butter cups is Peanut M&Ms :)

You *could* paint

'I'm a girl and I like to wear dresses'

on the side of the bag just to be sure it doesn't get used for illegal male purposes?

Renee.....well I DID find an alternative to Recees.....Sunspire sun drops (organic m/ms) but I can only find peanut ones in a store far, far away.... and my toffee, chocolate covered almnds....1 equals 25 calories (actually 21 but I count 25)....so I DO have my splurges well accounted for....NOW I have 2 - 4 almonds EVERY NIGHT or one truffle...before I would try not to eat them and then eat a whole bag in one setting. ::snort::

The cooler thing is to help me get 10 servings of crunch in....because if I'm not home it is much harder to get that many produce servings in. LOL

Walmart - under $10...I think it was $6.97 or something. They had one a bit smaller that I almost got that was black and purple...I really liked it....then I thought I mihgt want bigger because the children try to steal my snacks. I was still debating when I remembered the SALMON in my other cute purple and black cooler...so I went PINK....

Oh Dorothy - that's IT the guarantee! I could find some slogal to paint on the side....that or something similiar I msut think about this...but NOT during Ch. Marty's sermon this a.m.

De'Etta,

Just wanted to let you know that Eric has already lost 5 pounds just by making sure that he's getting his 12 servings of fruits and veggies! Thank you for writing about your weight loss efforts! It has been a huge blessing since my dh is not one who will diet but he is one who will eat whatever I give him.lol

De'Etta, I never thought to pack a cooler. I always toss a banana and a small prep bowl with almonds and dates in my purse. I will be looking for a cooler at WM next time. Is it in sporting goods with the other coolers? Like, I'm sure our WMs are exactly the same LOL.

You are doing so great! Such an inspiration to me.

Kelly - they are in WM and they had a smaller one that was black/purple that I would have gotten if I wasn't toting snacks for toddlers too.

I discovered that this one has a front pouch so this a.m. I was able to pack a diaper and keys in the pouch...and carry one bag...of course it looks like I've bought a really geeky, shocking new purse....embossed daisies on it... ::snort:: but it was HANDY.

Lisa - I'm thrilled to hear it. I'm with Eric. I don't think I AM dieting....I know I'm only eating 1200 calories BUT I'm eating a lot because all those veggies are FREE and don't count as calories....so goodness....I'm so glad we'd made these changes before I was counting calories...and that I was told to eat that many because of HEALTH (cholesterol) because I see those who are trying to begin eating healthy and limit calories and they are feeling deprived.

I am eating MORE now than I've eaten for years and years....and laughing that the weight is coming off NOW. Einstein said that insanity is "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". Or close to that...and that is what had happened with my dieting...it wasn't working but I was diligent because it had been drilled into me that what I was doing was "godly" and "right".....that gluttony must be avoided at all costs...which I think I agree with but gluttony is not 1200 calories - as I wrote across my food log form. LOL

Great to hear that Eric is eating his fruits and veggies....by the way it's March now and the CDC has released those new recommendations...LOL

That's right! Gluttony certainly is now 1200 calories. I'm having a hard time with feeling like I eat too much since I am eating so much fruit for a meal. 1 banana does not a meal make LOL. Why would I think I should be satisfied for hours with 1 banana LOL.

Anyway, I'm off for some fun exercise. A country music place around here is having a family night and teaching country line dancing, so our prayer group (mostly the ladies lol) are going country line dancing. That will be fun!

What a great idea and I agree a girlie slogan will be your insurance. LOL. I will need something like this if we join all day co-op in the fall. I use a boxey cooler for the lake days but that is right down the road. This looks ideal for days out away from home.

I am so glad I am not the only one with a cooler fettish. Every time I see them at Costco or Walmart, I am tempted to buy them. I love taking snacks with me like that because I feel much better when I am eating every few hours as well. Now that we are moved, I really need to get back to eating more healthy again. I think I have gained five pounds with this move! Aaaaagh!

Diann

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Diann - a kindred spirit - no one has ever understood this before. ::snort:: I just like new coolers...and we have to many in the garage...I should take a picture some day and discuss the merits of each one...of course, Mike seems to have a fetish too but he gets BIG and BOXY ones...then they use MY coolers for fish bait and hauling catches....ewwww...gross.

Re snacks - I'm amazed that I feel so much better with something every few hours because I lived for 9 years eating when my stomach growled and that would often be lunch and nothing else all day....no wonder I feel better. LOL

Lisa in Jax said...

It really has been a blessing for Eric. He's feeling much better than he has in years. He's full and he isn't eating his way through my kitchen before, during, and after dinner each night.lol

I, too, carry a small cooler everywhere I go. I never even thought to carry something in it for ME but I've always carried something for the kids ever since my new little ones came along. Evie especially, needs things handy so we don't end up with "the other Evie" when we're out and about.lol We also carry bottles for Isaac. Now I'll start carrying snacks for me.lol

DeEtta,
What a great idea! Especially when you are on the road and in transit! I saw some Sunspire at one of the stores near me, but she said they were $5 a BAG! Pretty pricey!

Still trying to come up with a girlie slogan....LOL

Lisa - great to hear Eric's input. I have found the same thing. I am full, full, full and eating much less than most do on a daily basis. Those veggies will do wonders for a person...after the first week of discomfort. LOL

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Beth - I don't pay that much! ::gasp:: Well - depends on the size of bag, I guess. I buy them through the co-op I run.....but they don't have the peanut ones. Heather, brought me some once from that city far, far away that carries them.....and they were spendy....but a treat.

I take sundrops for a treat or newman O's when I know that Zander will be in a situation where he is offered candy, cookies, doughnuts. This gives him a treat that doesn't send us on a 3 day spiral of meltdowns.
